“Not Feeling Well” – A poem by Stringbender

IMAG0252
I woke up one morn
not feeling too well
my guitar just sat there
silent and still

Could it understand
the feeling I had
fever and chills
and stopped up head

I wanted to hold it
but somehow I knew
that beautiful sound
probably wouldn’t come through

Maybe tomorrow
will be a brighter day
I’ll pick him up
and we’ll both go play

Practicing on the Dobro

Since I didn’t have any students the other day, I decided to put on some rhythm tracks, activate my portable Sony recorder and play along for a while.  This is always a good thing to do frequently so that you don’t forget how to play!!! I sure don’t get enough practice nowadays!

Yes, You CAN read Music (Part 2)

In the first post of “Yes, You CAN Read Music I showed you a simple chord chart for the song, “Amazing Grace”. Click here if you didn’t see it. In this post I’ll show you an example of a chart that has both words and chords. Remember, you must be able to make chords appropriate to your instrument!  Go here to see some guitar chords! So far, I’ve been talking about how to play the accompanying rhythm for a song, not the individual melody notes.  I’ll tackle that part later! Here is a chart for “Amazing Grace” that has the chord-to-be-played written just above the appropriate syllable in the corresponding word. There are also hash marks (or slashes) above the words to show when to strum your instrument.
Amazing-Grace-111815

Yes, I forgot to mention the E minor in the last line!

Yes, you CAN read music! (Part 1)

I stated on the first page of this website, “You don’t have to read music to enjoy playing”. Well, let me give you some examples of printed music that is easy to read!

First, there are chord charts that look like this:
Amazing Grace 111815

If you are familiar with making chords on your instrument, you should be able to strum each of the chords (starting at the Intro and continuing through all four lines of the verse!
